How Long Does Driveway Installation Take? A Realistic Timeline

For a standard domestic driveway (40–60m²):

These are installation days only. Additional time may be needed for groundwork if the existing surface requires significant excavation.

Size — Obviously, larger driveways take longer. But there's also an economy of scale — a 100m² tarmac drive doesn't take four times as long as a 25m² one, because setup and mobilisation is a fixed cost.

Existing surface — Removing a thick concrete slab is significantly more time-consuming than removing loose gravel or a thin tarmac surface.

Ground conditions — Poor sub-soil, tree roots, or high water table increases excavation time.

Complexity — Circular features, stepped sections, drainage channels, and pattern complexity all add time.

Weather — Tarmac and resin bound both have temperature and weather constraints. Tarmac cannot be laid in heavy rain. Resin requires temperatures above 5°C and no rain during installation and for 4 hours after. This can cause delays in Manchester's unpredictable climate.
