Everything Manchester homeowners need to know about resin bound driveway costs in 2025 — stone grades, base requirements, and realistic prices.
Resin Bound Driveway Prices in Manchester 2025
Resin bound surfacing is the fastest-growing driveway surface in Greater Manchester, valued for its SuDS-compliant permeability, smooth finish, and wide range of stone colours. Typical installed prices in 2025:
- •Small (up to 30m²): £3,500–£6,000
- •Medium (30–60m²): £5,500–£9,500
- •Large (60–100m²): £8,000–£14,000
Prices include preparation of the existing base, resin bound installation at 15–18mm thickness, and edging. Note that resin bound must be laid onto a solid, stable base — if your existing base is unsuitable, additional groundwork costs will apply.
What Drives the Cost of Resin Bound?
Base condition — Resin bound cannot be laid over a weak or uneven base. If you need a new concrete or tarmac base installed first, add approximately £30–£50 per m².
Stone grade and colour — Natural aggregates (Cotswold, Scottish Pea, rose gold) are standard. Recycled glass and mixed colour blends cost slightly more. Custom colour mixes from specialist suppliers carry a premium.
Thickness — Driveways require 15–18mm. Paths can use 12mm. Heavier-use areas may need 20mm+.
Edging — Aluminium or steel edging is almost always required at boundaries. This is usually included in quotes but confirm before signing.
Installer quality — Resin bound is highly sensitive to installation technique. A poorly mixed or poorly trowelled job will fail prematurely. Always check that installers are RALA or Ronacrete-approved.
Resin Bound vs Resin Bonded — Know the Difference
These are two completely different products that are frequently confused:
Resin bound — Aggregate is mixed into the resin before laying. The result is permeable (water drains through the surface), smooth, and very durable. This is the premium product and what we install.
Resin bonded — Resin is applied to the surface and aggregate scattered on top. It is not permeable, and the loose stones can shed over time. It is significantly cheaper but not suitable as a long-term driveway surface.
Always confirm which product you are being quoted for. A reputable contractor will be clear about this.
How Long Does a Resin Bound Driveway Last?
A quality resin bound driveway installed onto a sound base should last 25+ years. The main failure modes are:
- Base failure: If the underlying concrete or tarmac cracks, the resin surface will crack too. This is why base preparation is critical. - UV degradation: Lower-quality resins can fade or yellow in sunlight. We use UV-stable resin systems. - Edge failures: Where edging is absent or poorly installed, edges can break down over time.
